A CONVERSATION ON SEXUALITY AND SOCIAL MORALITY IN PSYCHOLOGICAL PRACTICE
Discussions over sexual issues, low sexual desire, extra-marital affairs, misuse of porn, anxiety about not having the right kind of orgasm, sexual trauma, issues faced by LGBTQ community members — all these are a challenge to many practitioners. Clients consistently report they wish they could have raised sexual concerns and problems during consultation. Many clients may be limiting their conversation due to the reluctance from clinicians to discuss such issues. Indian society’s patriarchal, heteronormative, and tabooed mind set shared by Keralites may have an influence in this. ലൈംഗികതയും നമ്മളും by ASCENT is conceived as a series of conversations between experts, practitioners, and students in the various areas of Psychological practice, such as Counselling, Psychotherapy, Coaching, Consulting etc. The aim of the conversation series is to evolve a comprehensive understanding of how the issues of Sexuality and Social Morality interfere and influence the psychological practice in Kerala. This is the second conversation on the topic. The first one was led by Dr. A. K. Jayasree, Activist, Researcher, and Professor of Community Medicine.
